4 Ways To Take Care Of Your Refrigerator

Your refrigerator can last for years if you know how to take care of it correctly. There are a variety of different maintenance tasks that you need to engage in if you want to keep your refrigerator in good working condition.

1. Change out the Water Filter

If you have a refrigerator that has either an ice maker or a water dispenser on it, that also means that your refrigerator has a water filter. The water filter helps remove minerals and particles from your water, and ensures that the water you drink and use to make your ice cubes is as clean as possible.

Water filters should be changed at least twice a year in order to keep your water clean and clear. The water filter is usually located behind your refrigerator, need where the water intake is located on your refrigerator.

2. Keep Your Fridge Smelling Good

You want your fridge to smell good. You don't want bad smells rubbing off on your food and ruining it. Fighting back against bad smells requires attention to your refrigerator.

One of the most classic ways to fight back against bad odors is by putting baking soda inside of your fridge. They even make special baking soda boxes now that are designed to provide optimum venting and deodorizing principles.

Another classic deodorizer is activated charcoal. Activated charcoal works much like baking soda, absorbing and removing bad smells from your fridge.

You can also purchase deodorizers that are made specifically for your refrigerator.

3. Wipe Down the Interior

If you want the inside of your fridge to last, you need to make sure that you clean it up. At least once a week, use a warm washcloth to wipe down each shelf and drawer inside of your refrigerator.

If you wipe and clean up your shelves and drawers at least once a week, crumbs and spills will not accumulate inside of your fridge. Spills and crumbs can lead to bad odors and can lead to damage to your shelves and drawers over time.

Taking just a few minutes to wipe down your fridge every week will help keep it in good shape for longer.

4. Clean off the Condenser Coils

All refrigerators have condenser coils. These coils help pull heat away from your refrigerator and your freezer. The condenser coils are usually located on either the back side of your refrigerator or under your refrigerator. The condenser coils play an important job keeping your refrigerator cool but can also suck up a lot of dust over time, which can make the coils less effective.

You can clean off your condenser coils with a vacuum or a long-handled bristle-brush. Either tool is an effective way to clean off the condenser coils.

Keep your fridge working well for the long-term by keeping it clean and smelling good, and by cleaning the condenser coils and replacing the water filter at least twice a year. For more information, contact your local refrigeration services.
